What is SPACE Community Development Initiative (SPACE)?
SPACE is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious community development organization registered under Nigerian law. We are dedicated to the social, economic and welfare development of individuals and groups across Kogi Central, including children, the elderly, the less privileged, orphans and vulnerable groups.
What are the aims and objectives of SPACE?
Our objectives include fostering member welfare, unity and development; promoting community and infrastructural development; encouraging quality standards in projects; building an information-driven environment for youth; supporting youth and gender inclusion, humanitarian interventions and social welfare projects; mobilizing grants, donations and partnerships; protecting vulnerable groups (especially children and women); organizing seminars, debates, charity projects and public enlightenment; and encouraging self-help, capacity building and community empowerment.
Who can become a member of SPACE?
Membership is open to persons aged 25 years and above who are committed to our objectives, possess good character and reputation, have no criminal record capable of damaging the image of the organization, complete the registration process, and pay approved dues and fees.
What are the rights and privileges of members?
Every registered member in good financial standing has the right to participate in meetings, programmes, projects and activities; speak freely and propose initiatives; vote and be voted into elective offices; receive notices and non-confidential records upon request; demand transparency and accountability; receive equal treatment and respect; benefit from training, mentorship, networking and empowerment programmes; participate in volunteer programmes and committees; recommend projects and partnerships; receive awards and recognition; enjoy welfare support; petition leadership; be given fair hearing before disciplinary action; and resign voluntarily in accordance with the Constitution.
What are the duties and responsibilities of every member?
Members must uphold the vision, mission, Constitution and reputation of the organization; demonstrate honesty, integrity and respect; attend meetings and activities regularly; pay dues and levies promptly; support fundraising and resource mobilization; serve on committees when called upon; promote unity and teamwork; protect the organization's assets and confidential information; refrain from actions that bring the organization into disrepute; act as goodwill ambassadors; mentor new members; encourage volunteerism and credible recruitment; support humanitarian and community projects; respect valid decisions; disclose conflicts of interest; and comply with lawful directives under the Constitution.
Does SPACE recognize and reward outstanding members?
Yes. We may institute a Member Recognition Programme that includes Long Service Awards, Outstanding Volunteer Awards, Community Service Excellence Awards, Leadership Excellence Awards, Certificates of Recognition and Appreciation, and priority consideration for trainings, conferences, exchange programmes and capacity-building opportunities.
What is the procedure for withdrawal, discipline or sanctions?
A member may withdraw by giving 30 days written notice. Grounds for suspension or dismissal include non-payment of dues, misconduct, abuse, criminal conduct and acts that damage the organization's reputation. Every member shall enjoy fair hearing and due process. Only the Publicity Secretary has the right to add or remove members from any social media platform, and only on the instruction of the President and with a two-thirds majority vote of members.
What are the financial obligations of membership?
A compulsory annual due of a minimum of ₦200,000 (two hundred thousand naira) must be paid by every member. In addition, a compulsory monthly due of ₦10,000 and a quarterly due of ₦30,000 must also be paid. Sources of income include dues, donations, grants, sponsorships, partnerships and other lawful sources. Any member who defaults in the payment of annual dues shall be suspended from all official platforms and activities until the matter is resolved. Reinstatement requires approval by at least a two-thirds majority of members present and voting at a duly constituted General Meeting, and settlement of all outstanding dues, including the current year's dues.
What is the membership commitment?
Membership of SPACE is a commitment to service, integrity, accountability, volunteerism and community development. Members are expected to actively contribute their knowledge, professional expertise, influence, time, resources and networks toward achieving the objectives of the organization.
